Key safes offer secure storage for spare keys, typically outside a property. This can save calling a locksmith if keys are lost or forgotten, but it also allows access to the premises of elderly or vulnerable people by carers and cleaners, or in the event of an emergency. Key safes are also useful at remote locations where a personal hand-over of keys may be inconvenient.
On most key safes, the locking mechanism uses either a thumb wheel or pin operated combination lock. For the tightest security, the Supra C500 KeySafe has gained police approval under the 'Secured by Design' scheme, and features a stainless steel body, long-travel locking mechanism and reinforcement around the pins. In contrast, the Lockey LY200 Digital Key Safe takes a more subtle approach, being disguised as a regular door-entry keypad which does not advertise that a key is inside. easylocks is the UK's leading supplier of key safes, and stocks models from many manufacturers, including Yale, Squire, Master, Abus and ezlok.
